Cornish fairings

These super spicy biscuits are a real treat - whether at a fairground or not! They are about as more-ish as can be.

  • 110g/4oz plain flour
  • 60g/2oz butter
  • 60g/2oz sugar
  • 3 tablespoonsful golden syrup
  • 1 teaspoonful baking powder
  • 1 teaspoonful bicarbonate of soda
  • 1 teaspoonful ground ginger
  • teaspoonful mixed spice
  • A pinch of salt

Turn on the oven to 205C/400F. Warm the syrup. Butter two baking sheets.

Sift the flour, salt, baking powder, bicarbonate of soda, ginger and mixed spice into a mixing bowl. Rub in the butter and add the sugar and the syrup.

Mix well to a fairly stiff consistency.

Roll the mixture into small balls and spread them well apart on the baking sheets.Pop into the oven and bake for about eight minutes.

Thats what biscuits should taste like! Enjoy!
